What is Alphabet Inc.?
Alphabet Inc. is a holding company that provides resources, freedom, and focus to market their ideas to their workers. Alphabet, as in the subsidiary company for Google and Youtube, not the ABCs, your children learn, has targeted their employees in this catastrophe of rising prices. Alphabet ranks 33rd in their company’s financial sector. Rankings are based on government and proprietary data on salaries, company financial health, and employee diversity. Half of the North American companies are laying off over 12,000 employees, and it’s only January, but why? Globally, the establishment of Google has over 160,000 full-time employees. However, when Covid-19 hit, and many people quitted due to drastic changes affecting half the population, employers went on a hiring spree to hire anyone they could, only to realize back in 2023 that they had made a serious mistake. Sundar Pichai, Alphabet’s boss since 2019, said that he took “full responsibility” for the decisions that led to the layoffs, meaning he made the final decision on whom to let go. The layoffs will represent 6 percent of the global workforce.
Some other firms involved in laying off
Not only YouTube and Google, but Amazon, Microsoft, and Twitter have announced that they will be participating in this event. Competition can energize employees and make it difficult to trust a company. Just last month, Google fired 16% of its leadership team. Since some of the workers that were laid off have been there for years, Google has sent them home with ‘take-home packages’. These include 3 months of existing salary, and six months of any health care, as well as compensation workers will be taken care of by labor laws.
This has caused a halt in many lives that are now on a search for new listings. Most employees are coping by looking for a new place to work, while others are still wrapping their heads around losing the company they gave their lives. Though they don’t realize that what they’re searching for is right under their noses.

Losing 12,000 employees can mean little to nothing to some specific companies. Yet, for another, it could be a total loss. Why would these employees reach out to other employers if the ones they stuck with for so many years let them go? The simple fact is that they just have to get back into a neutral state of confidentiality. In priority groups, we ensure employees feel cared for and we’re always on the lookout to bring anyone to the team. Regardless of if they worked for Alphabet, Inc, or not.
Sundar Pichai felt that cutting people financially could help grow the business without realizing the damage it could cause. In his opinion, it was the right thing to do, and he preferred to do it without warning so it “wouldn’t hurt as bad.” For 2 years there was a dramatic amount of growth in their economy, but that’ll soon change with this decision. Cutting so much will naturally affect the company’s year-end bonus. Some executives even said that more people should be fired and those who stay should be paid less, unbelievable right?
As previously mentioned, the economy has soured in 2022 and will only get worse this year. A cartoon of eggs is nine dollars alone; imagine wanting to have a brunch with your peers, it’s impossible. Inflation should be equivalent to the minimum wage going up. If people are getting paid the same and prices are increasing, people aren’t going to survive, especially jobless. Alphabet cutting people only means current workers are going to have to work extra hard and still get paid the same. Though it is horrible, they got laid off, hopefully, they find their way back on their feet and stubble on our opportunities here at priority groups. Everyone here works together to make this company run smoothly. Without one or the other, this organization wouldn’t work, and managers definitely don’t lay off 12,000 people in one month.
